Hiring: Researcher

Our mission is to change the definition of startup success by covering 6-, 7- and 8-figure acquisitions in the online space.

You’d help us do this by researching and documenting facts about companies that have been acquired, and furthering our database project. You can learn about the database here.

This is not a writing position; it’s purely research and reporting.

You’ll research deals online and record facts in our database, following our style.

Our ideal candidate brings:

• Reporting chops and an understanding of journalistic ethics
• Respect for accuracy and attribution
• Basic understanding of business and the startup world
• Energy for learning

• You care heavily about getting facts right
• You’re awesome at scrappy online research and know how to dig beyond the obvious sources
• You’re good at sorting through information and pulling out the important pieces
• You might have experience working as a reporter covering business or startups (bonus but not required)
• You are incredibly reliable and dependable

• You’re comfortable with or willing to learn the metrics and acronyms in the startup space, like SaaS, equity, ARR
• You enjoy being part of a small, scrappy team that’s building a business from scratch
• You’re a problem-solver who suggests solutions alongside pointing out problems
• You’re familiar with AirTable or at least comfortable learning new tools

This is a 30-hour project that pays $25/hour.

We’re looking for a candidate who can be available now to complete 30 hours work within 2 or 3 weeks. If it goes well, there’s potential for future projects.

This is a remote position on a freelance basis. Work whenever you want and wherever you want, so long as you do the job well.
